The Nutcracker and The Grinch, two classic pieces produced during the holiday season, will be performed on the Geary Theatre stage this weekend. The Grinch will run Friday, Dec. 7, while The Nutcracker runs Thursday, Dec. 6 and Saturday, Dec. 8 each night at 7:30 p.m.

The history of The Nutcracker revolves around Clara, a child who receives a doll from her uncle Drosselmeyer. At the stroke of midnight magic happens and the doll comes alive to rescue her from the evil Mouse King. As the story continues, she falls deeper and deeper into the realm of the Sugar-Plum Fairy.

The Grinch is a humorous story by Dr. Seuss. It centers on the Grinch who tries to snatch the joy of Christmas, by stealing presents and the Who's Christmas spirit.

Christmas arrives and much to the dismay of the Grinch he realizes that Christmas doesn't come with bows and tags, ribbons and bags, the Who's still celebrate the true meaning of Christmas with song and dance.

"I think that the Nutcracker will be an enjoyable experience for families," stated Joshua Gonzalez, a freshman at college.

"The Grinch will make you want to see it over and over again," replied Adam Van-Orden, a college visitor from Davis County.

"With all new students this year, I was a little concerned, but they all came out and danced wonderfully," said veteran artistic director, Carolyn Gwyther.

A new edition to the cast includes Gwyther's grandson Josh Gwyther who is playing one of the mice in The Nutcracker. Josh's dad, Matt Gwyther, edited the music for the many of her productions.

CEU students involved in The Nutcracker and The Grinch include Mesha Wagner, Cami Stewart, Edgar Fuentes, Hailey McCracken, Rebecca McKinnon, Nancy Mabbutt, Danielle Tremelling and Michael Babb.

The ballroom company will perform a special piece. It members include Joshua Gonzalez, Gary Bosshardt, Michael Babb, Mesha Wagner, Cami Stewart and Shalee Roberts.
