A love for math led College of Eastern Utah's Kevin Bower to teach on the Price campus this fall.   Bower graduated with his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in December 1997.   After getting his bachelor's degree, he started teaching math at Orem Junior High School from August 1996 to May 1997.

Then May 2002 come along and he decided to stop teaching in Utah, and found himself at the University of Wisconsin in January 2003, teaching algebra, college algebra, trigonometry  and math for elementary school teachers.

December of 2004 came and Bower found another job at Club Z Tutoring.  He tutored all ages for the "No Child Left Behind" program in Milwaukee, Wis.

Then he decided to get additional education and perused his master's degree at University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. By August 2005 he   moved up the grade level, and found himself working at Utah Valley State College teaching pre-algebra and algebra with tutoring algebra, college algebra, calculus, trigonometry and statistics, while maintaining full responsibility for all classes.

Within months, Bower was teaching at two colleges, UVSC and the Salt Lake Community College in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Deciding to apply for a full-time position at CEU, Bower applied and was appointed to the college's math instructor opening which was vacated by Greg Borman in May. About July 2006, he and his family moved to Price, where he teaches quantitative reasoning and introductory and college algebra.

"The reason I like teaching math is because it's easy to me and find it rewarding to help students understand it," he said.

Bower majored in math because he really enjoyed the teaching style of one of his college math instructors and thought it would be fun to do.

He likes the outdoors because he likes playing 2-on-2 volleyball, Lake Powell trips and camping.

The kind of music that he likes to listen to 1980's artists and bands.

Bower's wife Ginger and he have been married for a little over four years. They have two daughters, Katelyn, 2 years old, and Hadley, 4 months old.   "We love to go swimming and traveling to Utah County to spend time with extended family," he adds.

He hopes to work on a doctorate degree or second master's degree.

His favorite part about teaching at CEU is the college is laid back, "we have a lot of freedom to teach the way we want to. Also everyone here is so friendly."

The Bowers live in Price, with Eastern Utah still new to them. They admit to having a good time driving through Nine-Mile Canyon recently.

An amazing athlete, he was a member of BYU's 1996-1997 national championship club racquetball team and a member of UVSC's club volleyball team from 1999-2001.
