ASCEU expands, updates gameroom

There was not much to remember about the game room the past few years except that the pool tables were broken, the video games old and the hours inconsistent.   Pool sticks were being used to hold up the trees.   This was the game room that CEU has known for the last few years.

That was until Spring 2005 when ASCEU took over the facility. ASCEU's Recreation committee decided to take it over and make it into a place where CEU students would want to hang out. They named it The Nest.

The main goal of ASCEU last spring was to help the students have a place that they felt comfortable hanging out and meeting new people.   That is why they named it The Nest, the resting place and home of the Golden Eagles.

The dreams and goals of that recreation committee are actually coming true.   They had hoped that one day there would be X-Boxes with games like Halo and Karaoke Revolution.   This has already taken place.   There are two 32-inch TVs with two X-Boxes already connected and ready for students to play.

Games such as Halo 2, Madden 2004, NBA Live 2005, Karaoke Revolution, and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas are ready to play.

The new pool table, air hockey table, and foosball table are scheduled to arrive on August 29, 2005.   ASCEU will also be purchasing Dance-Dance Revolution, card and board games and are open for suggestions from students on what they would like to have in the game room.

The hours of the game room are Monday – Friday from 1-10 and Saturday 5-10.   Manager of the game room, Pat Thayn said, "We hope that the hours will be better for students this year.   We will be closed during all school extra curricular activities."   The hours may change if there is a greater demand for The Nest to be open longer or earlier.

Bill Osborn the Advisor over the game room said, "I am excited for the new equipment and games and hopeful that students will take advantage of the game room. I am also very excited to have Pat Thayn as the manager and I am looking forward to a great year. I hope that the game room will become a gathering place that students will be able to enjoy."

Student-Body President Jesse Holt said, "The new look of the game room is more student friendly with all the new equipment. I have a feeling it is going to be a non stop party."   The Nest has dark and light blue walls with gold highlights.   On the wall are sports jerseys from the past years at CEU and memorabilia from the past years.

In the future every student with their student ID will be given two tokens everyday to play two games.   Now it is 50 cents a game, and starting Monday the 29th with your student ID, the first game is free.

ASCEU is hopeful that these changes will help more students to get involved in student life at CEU.   Come to The Nest to see the changes for yourself and try playing a game or just kick back and relax between classes, that is what it is there for.
